Alton Gansky "A Treasure Deep" and E-books

14 Dec

Well i just finished "A Treasure Deep" by Alton Gansky It was a very good read, an i plan on posting a review on the book. I have started his "Zero-G" and it has started off very well. I did just finish a few weeks ago Austin Boydes' Mars Hill Classified series and now i am back in space with Zero-G.

I am very interested in reading this book and comparing the knowledge of the author about space. So far so good, and i am only on the 5th chapter.  I also found on Alton Gansky website that he offers some of his first books as e-books. These book are out of print, and he offers them as a gift to the readers. All he asks in return is you tell people about his website. So i have requested the first book that he has written. He let's you know it's his first book, and that he has learned allot since he pinned it. I guess it's like programming, you learn so much since you first started that you point out that  your first works were when you were just beginning. Me personally i don't like showing my first works. My peers would not let me live it down. That's the way it goes tho. :-)

I have been reading so many books that i have not been keeping up with my reviews. Granted i am still working on the blog system, and have just gotten it to the point that i can post articles. That is not excuse tho. I need to get on the ball and get them done.

I have enjoyed Alton Ganskys' work, and was nervous when i purchased "A Treasure Deep" and "Zero-G" at the same time. "A Treasure Deep" was the second book that i read by Gansky, and i was not disappointed.  Granted i did not like reading the characters getting the smack down, but Alton keeps it real. Perry and Jack trying to break down a door and commenting that it was not as easy as in the movies was funny. I think Jack should get into martial arts, or some kind of self defense class especially if he keeps hanging around Perry Sachs. :-) The mystery on what Perry is looking for is keep secret for quite some time. I enjoy the Mayor Ann, she was a very interesting character, and i have been around people that are just like her. Always want to know what is going on in other peoples business even when they don't need to know. The character Ann did have a view that many people have. And i like how Alton uses Perry to relay a message to Ann when she tells him about her past.

The hard part about doing a review is not giving away to much of the story. I would like to talk about it more, but to the people that may read this and then read the book, if i give away to much they lose some of the enjoyment of reading. I guess that's just me. I  try not  to read the back of the books that i look at because i don't want to know to much about the story. For me it's the author and the title. Maybe a little blurb about the story and that's it. Once i have an author and his/her writings have earned my trust i just pick up the books and go on my merry way. Granted that has burned me one or twice, but it does work well a majority of the time.

I have enjoyed the Perry Sachs mystery series and am going to get the only other book that i know about in that universe "Beneath the Ice". I have called the local book store and have checked for the book. I see on his site that he does not list a price. The local store has ordered it for me and it's $12.95. I like new and not used, but i need to find a more affordable supplier to help me with my habit.

There are two other books that i have finished that i need to get a review up for. And one of them i want to add in my own alternate chapter. I hope i don't get sued for that. :-)

Slandering Jesus

21 Nov
I finished Slandering Jesus the night before last. The book was written by Dr. Erwin Lutzer. The link that i have found for his website goes to Moody Church where Dr. Erwin Lutzer has been the Sr pastor since 1980. I have not read any of Dr Lutzer's other works, so this is my first exposure to his writings. I usually read fiction books, but this book is classified in the apologetics category. I have more books in my read list that are not fiction, because there are just more things that i want to know.

I wanted to know what Slandering Jesus was all about. I have felt that people have picked Jesus apart to try and make him fit what they want to believe. Dr. Lutzer addresses that topic in this book. He explains that there are many Jesuses, and that the Jesus that i know and follow may not be the Jesus that you know.

Why is this. I guess because people don't like the narrow path that you must follow. Here are some complete passages from the bible about the path. These are from NIV translation.

Matthew 7:13 "13Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Luke 13:22 22Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. 23Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?" He said to them, 24"Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. 25Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, 'Sir, open the door for us.' "But he will answer, 'I don't know you or where you come from.' 26"Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.' 27"But he will reply, 'I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!' 28"There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. 29People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. 30Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last."

People today, and i would say long ago, the reason is all the works from antiquity that they are finding (Gnostic writings), that this path to God that Jesus taught was not what many wanted to follow. So out come the new writings that are more acceptable to people.
When writing this article i had imagined the work that was being done on the interstate where i live. Before the work started it was a 4 lane route with 2 lanes for each direction. Now the same route is 8 lanes with 4 going in each direction. I know some people that live in larger cities will still think that is small with 8 or more lanes for each direction, but stick with me. I am going to show some age when i say i remember traveling on 2 lane roads. It was fun passing in those days. But back to the point. Jesus laid out the path, with his teachings he showed us the way to eternal life with Him in heaven. However many people did and do not like this path. This is that very old school 2 lane road. It's not as enjoyable to be on than the 8 lane express. People want to widen the path. Bring in the bulldozers and make this 2 lane road into a 16 lane express way. Heck make it like the autobahn. Also make it more accessible to everyone, easier to pass, and put a Starbucks exit every so often.

So now Jesus is being changed into what is more acceptable to the current society. He is more tolerant of the lifestyles that people chose. Dr. Lutzer brings this up in his book about the different Jesuses that are being created. People are using Jesus like a buffet. Picking the pieces that they like and will fit with there personal agenda, and leaving the rest.

This is a book that i will read again. It did not take me that long to finish it, but the next time i will make some more detail notes.

I do recommend this book to anyone that wants more insight into the different interpretations of Jesus, and people working to change him into the Jesus that is more acceptable and easier to follow.

More Books

19 Nov
I have been trying to review the books that i have read, but i have not been keeping up. I just finished The Personified Project. Oh and before i read that one i read The Proof, Mars Hill Classified. And i am currently on Slandering Jesus. I will most likely finish that one up tonight, and try to catch up on my postings. Between spending time with the family, working during the day, and trying to program applications for clients and myself, i stay busy.
Also i still want to get the posting of the very good news that i have to share. Also i have started to look for new books to read, right now i have a call in for Dark Things. The book store needs to tell me if they have it, if not i will order it online.
I cannot wait for Tim Downs new book First the Dead to arrive. It's one that i will get the day it comes out. I enjoy reading Tim's works. I have read both Bug Man books Shoofly Pie and Chop Shop. Also i have consumed his other two books outside of the Bugman series Plague Maker which Dr. Nick Polchak has a cameo and Head Games.
Tim Downs has other works outside of fiction, and i am going to pick up those items as well. I just need to get the books i have read.
Now back to work for me.

The Hunted (Every Man Series)

06 Nov
I finished the book The Hunted and i have to say it was good. It was not something that i think was awesome, but it was a good read. I really got into it at the end, but i don't want to give it away for people that have not read it yet. Reading the first sentence of the book you are thrown into a high pace escape. I was really excited about that i like action. The only problem i had was that every other chapter would alternate to a time in the past. It served it's purpose, and it was a good way to inform the reader on how the men got to the place they were at, but like i said i like action, and the break was getting old soon for me. Closer to the end of the book that ends because you know have the entire back story.
I like the fact that the book deals with faith. Also the areas where we can stumble in our life, and how Christians are called to forgive. I did not like it that the authors passed a scripture verse that calls for people not to kill. I can see where this is an issue for some. I have found the reference if you use the King James Version of the bible it is found in the following chapters/verses Exodus 20:13, Deuteronomy 5:17, Matthew 5:21, Romans 13:9. However if it was translated correct it would be "Thou shall not murder".
I don't think self preservation is considered murder. It's survival kill or be killed. Allot of people think that God/Jesus said don't kill.. but it's really murder. This was the only problem that really got me about this book. In my opinion the authors dropped the ball here, and tried to invent a shame that one of the characters could have to relate to the other character that had done something very wrong. But i do see "thou shall not kill" as a miss-interpretation with many Christians. With knowing that i can see why the authors could justify writing that in.
I will give this book 3 out of 5, and i am glad that i read it, but i don't like spreading false interpretations on to others. I just could not let that part go. It really got me reading it in the book. Maybe i am putting to much on one little section, but it's something that i am against. Dealing with faith, and how some people have never put there faith in a position to be tested was well addressed. I deal with that part myself.
When comments are added maybe you will be able to post back what you think about the book.
