Enlightenment 17 Final Release

21 Dec

I have updated my repo with EFL 1.7.4 and Enlightenment 17. This is the final release for enlightenment and you can get my repo package to install from

Fedora 17 x86_64: http://www.edmann.com/Enlightenment/repo/Fedora/17/x86_64/RPMS/enlightenment-repo-0.0.2-1.fc17.x86_64.rpm

Fedora 18 i386 & x86_64: http://www.edmann.com/Enlightenment/repo/Fedora/18/enlightenment-repo-0.0.3-1.fc18.noarch.rpm

I need to update the enlightenment spec file to include all the packages it needs to run in the require field, that should make it easier to install. So take this as my very first release with another being done over the weekend as i clean up the spec file some.

yum install ecore eina eeze evas evas-module_engine_gl_x11 embryo evas-module_loader_* ethumb edje eio evas-module_saver_* eet e_dbus e_modules-engage efreet elementary emotion enlightenment

If you have issues with the yum install let me know. I know there was one person that said eio and libeio were causing issues. If you have issues please post in the comments and let me know about your setup. I am trying to figure out why i cannot replicate this issue.

UPDATE

1. I had built the package and it missed having fontconfig-devel installed on the build server. I had fixed the issue and e-mailed back the person that reported the problem with starting E17. I have been just testing out the build system, and have another issue where the version was not updated. So this will require a force install/update of evas*

2. Why is SVG disabled? It was either a e-mail or irc chat i had and there was some issues with SVG. It was said to build Evas Generic Loaders. Which i have not done that either.

Thanks everyone for feedback. I will post updates on the site to keep people from repeating work.

  1. Issues

I've encountered two issues on Fedora 18: It wants to install the omega release of enlightenment. Enlightenment fails to run. Running enlightenment_start shows this: <<<< Enlightenment Error >>>> Enlightenment found Evas can't load SVG files. Check Evas has SVG loader support. <<<< Enlightenment Error >>>> Enlightenment found Evas can't load the 'Sans' font. Check Evas has fontconfig support and system fontconfig defines a 'Sans' font. E17: Begin Shutdown Procedure!

If you have an older version of Enlightenment installed you will need to uninstall it first before you can use the latest version. I have not figured out why it is doing this. Also if you have never run Enlightenment before then you will need to disable selinux for the first login and then after you log into the system you can re-enable selinux. Another option is to try and clean the yum metadata. You can run sudo yum clean metadata then try to install enlightenment

Fontconfig support is not enabled (in the x86_64 build at least), probably was not installed when building and it misses that build-dep. It also misses some others (directfb and libgif maybe, i forget). This is the reason of the fatal error "issues" experiences, as E17 will not work without it. Also, I think evas-module_engine_software_x11 and/or evas-module_engine_gl_xlib need to be installed not evas-module_engine_gl_x11 (it failed to start E when i first tried it as mentioned above). Lastly: why was svg support disabled?

Oh, and I did not have any issues with selinux, on f18 at least.

    Repo f18 not working?

    January 31st 2013 at 12:01 pm

Hi, I installed the rpm for the Fedora 18 32bit version (noarch) but my system isn't detecting any new packages. Running a: yum search enlightenment didn't yield anything outside of the standard e16 stuff. Your repo is enabled but for some reason doesn't work?? Can you help? Thanks

    Repo f18 not working?

    February 7th 2013 at 04:02 pm

The repo file for f18 was wrong. The nodep should have had $basearch. I have created a new build and have uploaded the new packages. You can get them here http://www.edmann.com/Enlightenment/repo/Fedora/18/enlightenment-repo-0.0.4-1.fc18.noarch.rpm

    libeio conflicts with eio

    March 27th 2013 at 09:03 am

If you already have libeio package, you cannot install your eio package since it provides a file which is already in libeio from fedora: file /usr/lib64/libeio.so.1 from install of libeio-4.18-1.fc18.x86_64 conflicts with file from package eio-1.7.5-0.enl.fc18.x86_6

evas-module_engine_gl_x11 not available & transaction check errors

    July 29th 2013 at 09:07 pm

Trying to install Enlightenment on FC 19 (using your FC18 repositories, as you suggested), I'm getting the following error:
No package evas-module_engine_gl_x11 available.
Also, I'm getting multiple reports of a transaction check error:
Transaction check error: file /usr/lib64/evas/modules/engines/software_generic/linux-gnu-x86_64-1.7.7/module.so conflicts between attempted installs of evas-module_engine_software_generic-1.7.7-0.20130708.x86_64 and evas-1.7.7-1.fc19.x86_64
I've never tried to install a window manager or desktop environment, so I have no idea what I'm doing or what these mean, but my hope is to replace KDE with Enlightenment.

    Kicked back to login screen

    August 2nd 2013 at 11:08 am

I installed E17 with the yum command on this page (21 December entry, E17 Final Release), but I can't log in to Enlightenment. I enter my password at login, but it keeps kicking me back to the login screen. I'm still able to log in to KDE normally. I'm using FC18 (was 19, but way too many issues for my taste.)
